Athens Key Hotel

Chose to stay at the Athens Key from 10 September for a week stay . So glad we chose to stop here , staff were amazing and very friendly and helpful. Were informed on arrival that because we were staying for a week we had received a free upgrade to a deluxe superior suite and were allocated room 304 We were half board and found the food to be both delicious and the portions plenty . In the morning the breakfast was buffet style and of a great choice and we usually sat out on the balcony of the Roof restaurant it was lovely and warm at 0800 This which gave us great views of the city and the Acropolis and we could sit and relax while planning our day over a coffee . ( The coffee in the morning is really good 👍) Evening dinner was also served here , we had informed reception on our arrival at the hotel that we would be dining every evening at 7pm. And the menu was very good and the food was delicious.Any beverages could be either billed to your room or paid before leaving the restaurant. Water is supplied to your table free with your meal which I have never found to happen elsewhere. The bar is open for drinks or snacks all day from 11am , nice to enjoy a beer or a spritz after your excursion or shopping trip . Up by the Parliament building you will find all the luxury shops as well as nice cafes and restaurants. There are numerous places to have snacks , drinks etc as you walk around and most prices are reasonable and we found the service to be very good and friendly. The shops are very glad for your custom and there are many sales on at the moment and bargain to be had . The hotel is ideally situated for walking to local museums and other attractions. The desk staff will help book day trips if required and also taxis if needed . The room we had was large and spacious, dressing gowns were in the wardrobe as well as an iron and an ironing board.There is a folding stand there for your suit case . The safe was also there but no instructions in english on how to use it . The room television was of a good size but not many english channels on it unfortunately , luckily had my IPAD and could watch Netflix etc. as wifi is free through out the hotel . There is a coffee machine in our room but we didn’t use it as brought our own sachets with us . Did use the kettle and filled it from the tap as the water is drinkable so no need to buy bottled water . Across from the hotel is a general dealer, a sandwich shop and a chemist. Should you stay here you definitely will not be disappointed we loved it .

The hotel is well clean and appears well maintained. You can view the Acropolis from the 10th floor breakfast area. I think it is a relatively good value and it is probably worth looking at if cost is a major concern. The breakfast was good, the water pressure in the shower was also good. The staff was friendly during check in. However, the location is about a 20-minute walk from the main tourist sites. When returning to the hotel late in the evening I found the streets in this area to be less populated than in the historic area and near than main squares. Since most of the stores were closed and streets deserted, I did not feel as comfortable walking in this area alone. In contrast, the streets in Plaka, Thiseio etc felt very safe. Taking a cab was an option for 5-7 Euro. The room was small and dark as the window overlooked a narrow alley. Also, the AC broke during the second night of our stay, and nothing could be done about it on a Sunday night. The hotel did not have fans or other options for cooling available. While the AC breaking could happen anywhere the staff was not skilled at service recovery and questions about the problem were met with cool indifference. Overall, this maybe a good value option if you know what you are getting as far as the location. The facility was clean and well-kept, but the staff could use some service training. I probably will try another option if I return to Athens.

Used this hotel as part of an island hopping adventure before we moved on from Piraeus. Hotel is centrally located near to Omonia square for the metro and hop on bus stops. The hotel was clean, staff welcoming and the bedroom on the 6th floor was perfectly fine for a couple of days if not a little compact in size. The lifts are small but worked fine and the rooftop terrace for breakfast and drinks gave a great view of the Parthenon and Acropolis. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly prepared and set you up perfectly for a day of sight seeing around the city. Sure there is some road noise as the hotel is slap bang in a major city centre but after a day of sight seeing and lots of walking we slept through the noise. Plenty of restaurants in the local neighbourhood for eating out. The hotel is close to Plaka district by metro and Syntagma square I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a weekend break in Athens
