A Solid, yet Expensive Hotel (for what it delivers)

Stayed 2 nights due to proximity to Old Town and TA reviews. On the whole, our stay was fine. The only ding is regarding value. While this is a European chain in a reasonably modern building (certainly not an ancient building), rooms, public space, parking, etc. are all very “cozy”, or just plain small. Highlights:- Great Location. This hotel is steps from the pedestrian tunnel under the mountain to the Old Town part of Salzburg where most tourist attractions can be found. Completely walkable, it’s maybe a 10-minute stroll to the center of town.- The staff were all pleasant and efficient. In addition to German, most spoke English, making our stay easier.- There is a parking garage under the hotel. It’s fine for small cars, yet as we noted, pretty tight spacing. We marveled that someone got a van down there. Alternatively, one of the public parking garages for Old Town is adjacent to the hotel. Believe we paid about 20 euro a day to park at the hotel.- Our room was very clean. Room had a mini-fridge and in-room safe.Other notes:- The hotel website is transparent about the size of the room. We had a balcony room. Inside, it is roughly the size of a typical cruise ship cabin. The photos are very clever. The layout was super efficient…so efficient that the only place to open a suitcase was the bed. Our packing cubes saved us. We stacked them on the small shelf unit and squeezed our suitcases into the open closet section meant to hang clothes. Very little counter space in the bathroom. A tiny desk that would not be suitable for work (we were there to play). Our balcony was pleasant as long as smokers were not nearby or in large numbers at the hotel entrance. The stay was fine. The hotel is solid. We’re not experts in the Salzburg hotel market, yet to us, this was not a particularly good value for what we paid. We posted a review of a second hotel in Salzburg that was not walking distance to the Old Town, but was a little under half the price, included breakfast, and a newer, larger room. Stay Away from This Hotel — You’ll Regret It

My stay at Leonardo Hotel Salzburg was an absolute disaster, and I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place.The hygiene and cleanliness are non-existent. The lobby, dining area, and kitchen were filthy. The breakfast buffet consisted of stale, unhygienic food, which unfortunately caused severe food poisoning for both me and my partner. Inside the room, the bathroom and floors were disgusting, and the bedsheets smelled terribly of sweat. To make matters worse, the room was infested with bedbugs—they were all over the mattress and bedframe, leaving bites all over my body. The ventilation and temperature control systems were also broken and useless.The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional, and most could not even speak basic English to address these critical issues.The prices are absurdly high for such atrocious conditions and incompetent management. This hotel is a serious health hazard. Avoid at all costs. Wonderful four night stay for a work meeting. Great location (easy walk to city center through the cool tunnel, bus stop right out the door with buses on major transit lines), great breakfast, comfortable room. Best thing was the wonderful staff at front desk who helped with everything (bus routes, iron, city pass, etc). Lovely people for whom nothing was too much trouble.. Clean, comfortable, small room in a quiet neighbourhood within about 15 minutes' stroll through the tunnel to the city centre. Downside is there's not much by way of food or groceries in this area. We stayed here as a family.. Lovely hotel and just a 10 min walk into the old town of Salzburg. We have the breakfast, was good. And for dinner, chose to eat at a cafe down the road which was fantastic.
