Great hotel but a good way out of the city
2024-04-30The hotel itself was faultless. The room was great, plenty of space for 3 of us and loads of storage for our luggage. The bathroom was a good size too and I loved the fact you could open the bathroom window to let in some much needed fresh air. It had a small balcony although the view wasn't great and it's right on a main road so it was quite noisy. However, it was a really warm room so it was nice to let in some air. The staff were friendly, helpful, and had great local knowledge. The breakfast was ample, fresh, and constantly being restocked. My only negative is that it is quite far from the city. While it's got great connections in and out by bus (and metro too but we didn't use that), I would have preferred somewhere a bit more central. However, I knew this when booking and gave it a chance because of other great reviews. But just bear in mind that it's a bit of a pain getting in and out of the city. The bus was fine and ran regularly but it was often packed with standing room only, which can be tiring after a long day's sight seeing! Other than that, this hotel was clean, tidy, and completely adequate for a long weekend.

2024-04-30Close to bus and 15 mins to city on bus. Buses can be very busy. Hotel restaurant for dinner was not good. We got 2 pasta dishes and the pasta was cold and hard. We sent back and got same 2nd time. The breakfast is good value. PleaSe note they give " complimentary breakfast" on check in and then charge you with city tax at end of stay. The restaurant and bar was not open weekend evenings. Room was ok, bed was comfy and was cleaned every day, we only used as a base. No tea coffee facilities. No fridge. Nowhere in hotel to get fresh coffee during day if you just want to relax.. Pennylane cafe amazing next door and amazing value. 👏

Not Bad, Not Great
2024-03-31Hotel is in a good location if you don’t mind a walk. It’s a bit out of the way to central Rome, but is about half hour walk to “Alter of the Fatherland” which follows on to the Colosseum etc, and a 10 min taxi ride to Castel st’Angelo. There is an underground about 15 min which is quick and easy to get anywhere. Room was pretty basic, we didn’t mind as we didn’t intend to spend much time there at all so depends what you are looking for. The bed was comfy, they have a safe. Some rooms apparently have a fridge, we didn’t. Rooms are quiet you don’t hear the traffic noise unless you have window open. I had to ask for handwash and toilet tissue when we arrived as these were empty, but they do make the up room everyday, and we had everything we needed going forward. Wasn’t the cleanest of rooms in terms of decor. There were dirty marks over the walls and the curtains didn’t look great. Staff were friendly! Would I come back to this hotel? Probably not. But it was just somewhere to put our heads after a day of site seeing. Don’t be shocked there is city tax charged at this hotel! We paid €60 for 3 nights

Ok-ish hotel but a few big red flags
2024-04-30The hotel is decent , the towels are being changed daily and they do the bed. That is pretty much all. Our toilet seat was broken , and was fixed our last days of stay , out of 7 days. Whilst we had shower , the bathroom was flooded so used 4 big towels to dry afterwads. Does require a general painting and cleaniness. Breakfast is reallh poorly and a dissapontment . They have scrambled eggs and bacon, three different kind of ham , 3- 4 different croissants , 2 different yoghurts , a few cereals and that's all. Also staff don't add food until people wipe the last few scraps , a few times we had to wait until they brought food again to refill. Also , the biggest dissapointment , after paying quite enough for a hotel that is so far from centre , we also had to pay €110 local tax for 2 people for 7 days , why would the hotel not informed of this before booking or even on the first day of our arrival ?!! A family at the check out were arguing with the staff as they have used all money etc. It was really sad. The buses take longer than estimated , and are not always on time , also 160 seems to run every half an hour , as far as noticed. However, I would say pay a bit more and stay closer to the city with better and more choices offered .

Lovely hotel
2024-03-31The hotel is really nice, clean and comfortable the breakfast is lovely too. The staff are so friendly and helpful and it was only a 10 min walk to the metro station which took us to the main sites. It was nice to stay out of the busy parts of the city.

Torre Guelfa Palazzo Acciaiuoli
Florence, Florence3 Nights | Bed & Breakfast | Standard Room
View Details
Hotel Details
Palazzo Acciaiuoli was built in 1341 by the will of the Grand Seneschal, Prime Minister and Constable Niccolò Acciaiuoli, at the time one of the most illustrious and powerful men in the city.
The history of the Acciauoli family, who fled Brescia in the 12th century because they were Guelph, lasts 600 years.
The Tower, in addition to being the tallest private building in the city, is one of the few medieval buildings left in Florence. Its grandeur still towers over the city, within the city, dominating the entirety of its history with a formidable 360° view.

Beautiful old hotel
2024-04-30Lovely hidden hotel in a fantastic historical old building, full of character Staff very professional and friendly Rooms quite small but adequate and plenty of options for breakfast Tower Bar on the rooftop is a bit confusing as there’s no bar, just a man taking your drink order (we thought he was a guest) and he stops taking orders at 9pm However the views from the Tower are breathtaking Don’t go to this hotel is you want ‘modern’ it’s a beautiful medieval building that’s meant to be appreciated

A little gem!
2024-03-31Wow! A real little hidden gem in the heart of Florence. The hotel was clean, breakfast was excellent, staff were all very friendly and helpful and in the perfect location. The roof top terrace is an added bonus and a great place to have lunch and admire the fantastic views! The hotel is very old and traditional and if you like modern, this is not the hotel for you. There are lots of restaurants, shops in walking distance and the ice cream is wonderful! Florence is a beautiful place with lots to see and do. Thank you for a wonderful stay and will be returning. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect stay
2024-03-31I really enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality. The breakfast was delicious especially Vivian's bacon! Different from the American style, but so good. The tower was a magical surprise. The location was really convenient. We were in the middle of everything. I also read Mr. Zucconi' s book he so kindly left and it was unique to read about the characters while staying here. I'm leaving now to walk the Boboli Garden. Thank you!

A Hidden Gem
2024-02-29The rating I've given says it all! The rooms are clean and large and can be described as 'shabby chiq', entirely in keeping with the building itself. Breakfast is excellent with a large choice and coffee made and served by a person, not an automatic machine. The location is perfect, close to everything you would want to visit whilst in Florence. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Charming place in a great location
2024-01-31Charming old building in an excellent location. Easy walk from the train station and in the heart of the tourist areas. The free breakfast is much better than most. Many great restaurants within a few minutes walk. Don’t miss the panoramic views from the tower. It is quite a few stairs on an old wooden staircase, but well worth it.

First stop Orange line Alilaguna from airport
2024-04-30Great location for First Stop for AliLaguna from airport orange line, Madonna ORTO, share water bus, 30 minutes, then 7 minute walk to hotel, two bridges. And last stop before going to the airport. Nice big towels, Hot shower, good water pressure, super amenities, daily water bottles. Room was perfect size for one person, plenty of storage space, bathromm was large and bright. Loved the sky lights for ventilation. Breakfast was fabulous, many choices. Quiet location, 15 minutes walk to main tourist walkway. Room was VERY warm, no air-conditioning during my visit, 80 degrees early April, bring a small fan if needed. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel
2024-04-30This lovely hotel is situated in a quieter part of the city but only 5 minutes walk to the centre and water taxis. There are lovely places to eat nearby as well. The staff were very kind and readily gave advice and recommendations about where to eat or how to get around.

Lovely Hotel
2024-03-31Brilliant hotel, highly recommend. I stayed with my partner and my parents and we had a lovely time. To get to the hotel we used the Alilaguna ferry from the airport and got off at the first stop on the orange line at Madonna Dell’Orto which is only a few minutes walk to the hotel. On the way back we did decide to do a private transfer, the boat pulls up right outside the front of the hotel which was also great. The hotel itself is beautiful, we loved the traditional Venetian keys with tassels that were kept behind reception. Rooms were decent, they were clean. Bed and pillows not the most comfortable but I never expect that whilst travelling. Biggest complaint would be the lack of outlets, there is only two plug points, one on the desk opposite the bed and one by the door which means you cannot charge your devices in bed, not the end of the world but was rather annoying. Bathroom does have hairdryer, it works okay. Not the worst I’ve used in a hotel. The staff at the hotel were lovely, their English was very good. Always received a warm greeting when entering or leaving. The hotel bar is quite nice, we had a few drinks there when we were just waiting around. In terms of breakfast, although not included in our stay, we did opt to have it one morning and charged the €15 each to our room. There was a range of different things to choose from, different pastries, bread rolls, toast, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, yogurts, a fruit salad etc. They had a few different juices and a coffee machine. I will say I’m glad we only ate their once, every day might have been a bit boring. As the hotel is in Cannaregio it’s lovely and quiet area. Yes, it’s further out from the main tourist attractions but it’s only about a 30 minute walk to San Marco square which doesn’t feel that long as you are looking in shop windows and stopping to marvel at the stunning streets and canals you pass on the way. Definitely worth it in my opinion to enjoy the peace. Upon arrival, receptionist told us the hotel does a boat tour at 17:30 every evening which I believe was €40 pp. We decided to do it as we had nothing else planned, it takes you all round Venice so you get to see some nice building and have a glimpse of the rialto bridge which was nice. If you plan to travel to Murano and Burano the main port to catch the ferries is F.te Nove which is a 15/20 min walk from the hotel. You can buy tickets there on the machines or you can buy them in some shops, we got ours from a tobacco shop a few mins from the hotel. Hope this review helps, and if you do choose to stay, I hope you have a wonderful time like we did!

2024-04-30Booked for 3 nights in August, via Booking.com, 2 rooms for family of 4. Total was €1000. Got sent a booking.com message that they couldn't validate my credit card which was odd. Changed it to another. They cancelled the rooms. Called them they said rooms were now €2000.

A Charming Retreat in Central Ischia
2024-04-30The location was absolutely perfect, situated in a central area that was incredibly walkable, with shops, restaurants, and attractions right at our doorstep. The highlight of our mornings was the delicious breakfast, expertly managed by Sara. She ensured we started our days right with a variety of tasty options and a warm smile. The front desk attendants were equally exceptional, going above and beyond to assist us with arranging taxis, making reservations at local restaurants, and even providing helpful tips for exploring the island. The rooms were beautifully appointed, offering a comfortable retreat after a day of sightseeing. They were impeccably clean and well-maintained, with thoughtful touches that made us feel truly at ease. We also enjoyed an unforgettable meal at the rooftop restaurant. The pasta was simply the best, thanks to the talented chef's skills. Our waiter was incredibly friendly, adding to the delightful experience." Overall, this hotel felt like a great home away from home. The combination of attentive staff, excellent service, and lovely accommodations made our stay in Ischia unforgettable. I can't wait to return!

Don’t Stay Here
2024-03-31This hotel is not a 4 star, not sure how it was evaluated that way. While the location is good (though odd that it seems to be in a neighborhood with houses), the breakfast is good and the pool area looks cute (while dated), that is where the positives end. As to the cons, the service is the worst I have ever experienced for a supposed 4 star. When I checked in, they had no one to take our bags to the room (as they only had one person working ) The key to our room didn’t work so I had to go down repeatedly and a staff member needed to give me a physical key as it wouldn’t work for her. After dinner an older man that works there was extremely rude and unprofessional saying the key worked for him and rolling his eyes. They don’t have AC and couldn’t lower below 24 degrees Celsius. We were forced to open the balcony for air and flies/mosquitos got in. The room is tiny and dated (while the balcony is large and about 1/3 the size of the room), the hotel facilities are in desperate need of updating and for the price, it is terrible value. I only stay in 5 star or 4 star hotels and compared to (for example) Hotel La Floridiana in Capri which is a 4 star with phenomenal service and modern facilities, this was a big disappointment

Quality Hotel in nice location Ischia
2024-03-31Interesting hotel and interesting reviews. I am traveling for business all my life and used to many places, also as a family we travel a lot. This week our fifth time to Ischia. We booked directly as the rate was cheaper than online so great. Some things nonetheless needs be looked at even if they are not too much of a problem but the hotel pretends to have a high standard and therefore it is important to see key points: - hotel takes full amount by time of arrival. If you want to be a 5 star hotel (they gave us the feeling many times having the Wish to be better than the are) you need to trust your clients. Payment in really classy hotels is always at check out! - People are friendly indeed but you sense it is not really real. Breakfast is nice, order to breakfast with service which I like very much personally. Same thing, waiters are not really friendly but they give you the feel of being in a luxury place (which it is not compared to e.g. Leo Hotels in Ischia). - Last point. Our airline of Star Alliance announced a strike during the week and they booked us a day earlier which we accepted. Talked to a young manager whose English was quite bad explaining the situation and just asking nicely if he can talk to the manager or director to find a discount as we would leave a day earlier. Not a request just a question. he explained me not understandably the rate is fixed and cannot do anything. Ok clear, no worries, I asked him still to as the director. He promised YES, until check out no one ever spoke to us, I asked if the guy has asked anyone at check out no one knew. Again here I would say if you pretend to be fancy explain correctly, if guest asks to speak to director, do so please and if response is NO perfect fully understand. I had similar situations in my business life many times and always was offered something even if it is a gesture for example a restaurant voucher additional support whatever. So all in all. Hotel is ok, rooms are ok, in my opinion good 3 Star Swiss/Austrian quality, Italian 4 star agree with, but still a long way to what they want to be.

gouged 150 Euros
2024-03-31Wall are thin, floors are tile, noises carries well in this hotel. After midnight my wife wakes me and says screams are coming from our TV, she cannot sleep. She's correct. I am still half asleep but to solve the noises I turned the TV on, then turned it off but no luck, we continue to hear the occasional scream from our TV. If I call the front desk they will likely move us to a different room which means repacking, dressing, and moving. Instead I decide to unplug the TV which means lifting it from the wall brackets to access the plug. There were also 2 telephone or computer jacks to unplug. I did and set the TV on the counter. The screams continue. I called the front desk who said it was probably the TV next door and they would call and ask them to lower the volume. Problem solved ? Next morning I advise the desk of my action and ask that one of their staff re-install the TV as I don't want to drop it. I see our next door guests at breakfast and apologize to them for calling the desk on them. They were very nice explaining they were watching "Vlad the Impaler" and that vampire movies have a lot of screams. When we return from breakfast I was accosted by the manager who said I had "crushed" the TV and it would cost me 150 Euros. "Crushed" is obviously not the proper word but his English was better than my Italian, so "crushed" remained his word. No appeal, and no reasoning with this man. Three hours later we return to our room, the same TV is back up and working fine. I see from other negative reviews that if you get too good a deal on your room, which we did, the hotel may try to make it up with some fabricated charge or add on. I also see that the manager will respond with some snarky comments to justify his actions. Be forewarned.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
2024-04-30Wonderful hotel in the heart of Sorrento! Close to local restaurants and stores. Staff was fantastic. We dined in the hotel restaurant and it was great. This hotel is popular with tour groups, but we never found the buffet breakfast to be overly crowded. Very nice rooftop bar and the bartenders were cordial. Had no problem ordering anything because there was a food service staff, who could explain things to us. We used Google Translator a few times.

So many good things about this hotel and Sorrento. Would stay here again without doubt.
2024-04-30Great hotel in a great location. Ate at some good restaurants and there's shops and a supermarket near the hotel. Room and amenities were all good. Breakfast was also good with a wide choice and friendly staff. Ate in restaurant one night and it was excellent. Was given a breakfast to go bag as I was leaving at 7am despite fact I had gone in early and had a quick bite to eat. This was a nice touch. Liked the recycling points around hotel. Loved Sorrento, did a few trips and would come back. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

First class hotel
2024-04-30We have just returned from a fabulous stay for 10 nights at the Michelangelo hotel. Everything was first class, lovely friendly, helpful and accommodating staff, especially Francesco in the restaurant who was always exceptionally helpful and charming. The food was always lovely, well cooked and presented for breakfast and delicious three course evening meal. The room was spacious and immaculately clean with two lovely balconies. Everything about this hotel was just perfect including the brilliant location, very close to station and centre of Sorrento.

Incredible
2024-04-30Hands down one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to! We stayed for 4 nights in April 2024 and everything was perfect, the service from all the team from the house keeping staff to bartenders, servers and receptionists- everyone was so kind and friendly, the breakfast was also delicious. The hotel itself is gorgeous, a real tranquil in the middle of a busy popular area. We actually got engaged on the terrace of the hotel and the hotel staff helped my partner organise everything, it was magical and so special! Mario the bartender couldn’t do enough for us, he is a true gem. We will definitely return to this hotel and I couldn’t recommend it enough. If you’re debating booking it, you won’t regret it! x

Disappointing
2024-04-30We arrived at the hotel at midday after travelling for 12 hours to be sent away until 3pm as our room would not be ready until then. Not the welcoming arrival we would have liked. We wandered around sorrento until our check in time - but I’d this the right way to treat your guests? To tell them - you’ll have to come back at 3? Bed not singles as booked - despite us checking at reception when checking in (eventually). Had to go back to reception and ask for this to be done. Dripping condensation on radiator in bathroom when we arrived and this was there throughout our stay. (Why is there a radiator? It doesn’t heat?!! ) Shower - no seal on bottom of doors. Huge flood in bathroom on day two . Reported to reception but despite this it wasn’t fixed and leaked throughout stay. Looking at the state of the shower under the door it’s been leaking a long time On return to room later in the day (day 2) floor Soaking wet under bin from flood earlier and soaking wet towels not replaced. Had to go to reception and ask for towels Hairdryer not working on arrival - reported and replaced day two. Room not clean (dust) on arrival Room not cleaned day 1 / bins not emptied no evidence of much cleaning all stay. Piece of paper on floor in bathroom on arrival. Still there when we left. Really cold in room day and night I have never stayed in such a cold hotel After speaking to the TUI rep on our last day about our issues she organised with the hotel to allow us to check out at 1pm rather than 11am as a gesture of goodwill. No charge. I checked this with reception after breakfast on our last day and was told no - this hadn’t been authorised. Though they did say we could check out at 12. Got back to the room - call from reception- yes we can check out at 1 no charge. Imagine our surprise when housekeeping knocked on the door at 10.30….. TUI rep spoke to reception about the shower and was told that we hadn’t reported it. I watched the reception staff write it down at the time of reporting The luggage room is just off reception and is not secure. Anyone can walk in - when I asked about collecting our cases I was told I could just walk in and get them! Reading other reviews on here it feels as if we were treated as second class. Our room was in the annexe. I see that the hotel website describes these rooms as economy. Nowhere. NOWHERE in our TUI booking was our room described as this. We paid a lot of money for our four night stay One positive. The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and welcoming Can’t say the same about the prices?? €10 for a gin and €5 for the tonic!!!!! We loved Sorrento but wouldn’t return to this hotel.
