9 Nights - Athens, Mykonos & Santorini Multi Center Vacation W/Air

My wife and I had an enjoyable weekend stay at Athens Tiare Hotel. The check-in process was fast and friendly. We stayed in a spacious Tiare suite on the 8th floor, offering great views over Omonia Square with the beautifully illuminated fountains at night and Mount Lycabettus. The room had plenty of facilities and the beds were really comfortable. The management provided a complimentary bottle of red wine and some fruit in our room on arrival, which was a nice gesture. We dined at the hotel's Artensis restaurant on Saturday evening, opting for the outdoor undercover seating in Omonia Square. The food was really tasty, and the staff were both attentive and friendly. Breakfast at the hotel was good, although the selection wasn't huge, there were plenty of options for a short stay. My wife used the hotel gym. However, this was really small with one treadmill, a multi weight machine, and some free weights. It probably wouldn't be practical for more than 2 people to use it at any one time. The location is great, with the metro right outside and also the hop on hop off tour buses stop right across the road. Monastiraki Square and the Acropolis is only a straight 15 minutes walk away, too. Some reviews mentioned that Omonia Square felt unsafe. However, we never felt unsafe walking around the area at night and were never bothered by anybody.

What an experience this was! Let us start with the location: although it is located a fairly walkable distance to the acropolis (20 to 30 mins), do so at your own risk. Specially down the side roads. The hotel is located in Omonia which is pretty much the ghetto- so i would advise to be cautious. However, I do give it full points for having the train station right outside the hotel entrance which is very handy. The hotel itself was fine. Room clean and bed comfortable. We literally had a view of grey walls of local buildings out our windows so the room was completely dark. Breakfast was nice and staff friendly enough. I would be very careful buying food from local takeaways as a local shop charged us double - €12 for 6 falafel and small salad and €3 for a 330ml drink!

I visited the hotel late January 2024 together with a group of 12 friends. Some stayed for 2 nights and others 3 nights total, and I have to say the staff were absolutely fantastic from check in to check out. They all made us feel very welcome and assisted with all our needs, from booking mini cabs to arranging bus tours and advice on where to visit and eat out. The hotel is modern and clean throughout and the rooms are spacious, all the facilities you expect from a city hotel. Location is great with several amenities within walking distance to include the Metro. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again on my next visit to the Athens. We stayed here for 2 nights just before heading off to Paros. We booked a standard sea view room which was on the ground floor and we found it satisfactory for our short stay. The room was actually really spacious with chairs, a coffee table and there was a small terrace with outdoor furniture. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast was plentiful with lots of choices. You could sit outside on the terrace with sea views whilst eating it. The hotel is located just on the outskirts of town on the flat being just a couple of minutes from Fabrika bus station. The price was also really affordable. The only negatives was our room was a bit dated, we also had lack of privacy on our terrace with people walking past. There is also a busy road outside which you need to negotiate each time you go out. A good stay would come back another time.

On arrival the staff in reception so friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the bungalow near the sea. Food was great something for everyone We found the small restaurant less busy, and so nice eating every meal outside Hotel clean rooms cleaned every other day. Just one strange thing .even with a wrist band on had too pay for beds on the beach ( only 4 euros) plus pay for drinks( just walk upto the pool bar for your all-inclusive drink no problem) So near to walk into kos town 20 mins Flinstonebar does wonderful cocktail 5 mins walk I would really recommend this hotel A wonderful time was had

This hotel was probably the worst all inclusive we’ve ever stayed at. When we arrived there were three men who couldn’t speak English at reception. They started speaking German then when I said we were English just used hand gestures and stared at us. We felt very intimidated as a young couple being eyed at by three middle aged men. When we tried our room card it didn’t work so we had to go back down to report it. One of the men looked furious and grabbed a key from the back room and gestured for us to follow him. This made us feel anxious being in a foreign country being treated like this. There was no water in our room then when we asked at reception they told us that we would have to wait until morning. We were sweating so this was a joke. The food was so limited in terms of choice. As a vegetarian the only protein I could have for my lunch and dinner was lumps of cheese. And beans twice in the two weeks we were there. The flies in the buffet were a nightmare, both flying around our faces and amongst our food. My boyfriend who is a meat eater found the food very boring and low quality. The breakfast was just as bad. The queues for pancakes were sometimes up to 15 people having to move out of the way of food trolleys coming out of the kitchen. The beach isn’t suitable for walking on barefoot. It’s covered in sharp stones and someone stood on broken glass whilst we were here. The coffee machines in the hotel building are only available for use at breakfast then disabled so you have to go around to the pool bar. There are toilets in reception that we could smell from being in reception, not even entering the actual toilets. The maids mustn’t use cloths from one room to the next without properly rinsing because after the maids did our room there was such a strong smell of urine. There are a couple of bars near the hotel which kept us up until after 2am doing karaoke. It’s a good 40 minute walk to kos town. Whilst we understand this is a budget hotel we think it isn’t worth half of what we paid. On a plus note the woman who stands at the buffet doors is lovely and friendly and always has a huge smile on her face making us feel welcome. We overheard another young couple arranging to transfer to another destination and wish we had done the same. We saw a TUI rep once two days before we left but was always swarmed with people. It really doesn’t feel like a TUI hotel. We are disappointed by tui and will be in contact with our branch in the UK.

The test of a good hotel is how they act when things go wrong not when things are going right. We would revisit had it not been their reaction to BED BUGS in our room, specifically on and around me following a 30 minute late afternoon nap. I woke to x3 3rd or 4th moulted instar bugs on the duvet next to my right arm having been sleeping on my left side. I sat up and there were x2 more on my pillow and x1 slightly further down the duvet. An additional unmoulted 1st or 2nd instar on the top left side corner of the mattress sheet, and x1 unmoulted adult female on the seam of the duvet. I used Google lens to confirm my ID and only took a couple of close range photos in order to show reception. In hindsight I wish I'd taken more photos and video footage, including snaps of the headboard where there was back mould/mildew looking debris/marks and where I now believe them to have come from. However, rather than physically go to reception I called them. They said to repack and they would move us, a male member of staff (Vagellis) came up within a few short moments, looked at the bugs on the bed and confirmed they were bed bugs, though he didn't know much about them, said they usually only appeared on ground floor rooms (we were 1st floor) so it was unusual for them to be in our room. He offered us another room or that we could move to one of the bungalows. We opted for another room and moved our stuff over. I contacted EasyJet who sounded shocked and understanding and assured me it would be properly investigated and dealt with. I sent over the 2 photos we had taken as they asked for photographic evidence if we had it. The following afternoon EasyJet emailed to say the hotel had had pest control out and nothing had been found. As I had said my main concern was if we took them back home they sent me a link to the NHS website.... I went to reception and asked the same staff member to confirm the photo on my phone was what he saw in our room and he lied to my face, denied it and said he saw ants!! He then went and got X2 youngish females who we were told were managers. The dark haired female proceeded to then insinuate I was a liar and the photos weren't from their hotel and they didn't recognise the duvet. It was only when my partner pointed out that the phone photos are GPS marked that they went quiet. The fairer haired female insisted they had taken the complaint seriously and that pest control had said there was nothing. After pointing out I had not asked for anything and was simply trying to prevent anyone else having to experience the same distress so it concerned me if pest control had found nothing because they do exist in the room, she said they'd struggled to get pest control out due to it being Easter (they celebrate this according to Julian calendar so it ran on the UK early spring bank holiday weekend). She then asked my opinion as to whether they should get pest control out to "recheck" and my opinion was that I strongly recommended it. I also suggested that they take the male staff member aside behind closed doors and ask him what he saw given he wouldn't admit it in front of us as he could confirm their existence. It is on this basis, the defensive and dishonest reaction the hotel had to a genuine bed bugs issue that will result in us never returning here and my review. I have not rated this a 1 because everything else was great, the hotel staff were responsive to any requests and helpful. They'd thought of everything, there is a downstairs shower and changing room opposite reception next to the luggage storage so that on departure day you can shower and change if your flight is in the afternoon/evening. On arrival the reception looks clean and modern, staff welcoming and friendly. Lots of reviews on here saying the rooms look tired but we didn't think they were that bad - stereotypical overseas rooms - simple, minimalistic but look and feel clean (with exception of what looked like mould/mildew on my headboard which I now believe was bed bugs faeces). The food is very average at the hotel but there is a fair variety. The local restaurants and those in Kos town have a huge variety of freshly prepared dishes using good quality produce for good value. For example, a Greek salad I paid €8.50, Salmon salad was €18. It is 1.5 miles from the hotel to Kos town, we walked there and got a taxi back which was €8. There is a shop adjoining the hotel which is open until 11pm, bottles of water are not included in the all inclusive package at the hotel and cost more to buy at the hotel, at the shop; 500ml water is €0.50, or a pack of x6 2lt bottles we paid €2.50. The hotel has a "private" beach - it is shingle, and sunbeds/parasols are €3.50 to rent per day. There is also a little beach bar but items are not included in the all inclusive package. Nice for a wander at night and was very quiet in the day, but there are nicer sand beaches on the island to visit. Please note there are no life guards at the hotel beach or the hotel pools, we didn't see a life guard at a few of the beaches we visited so not sure they have them at all. I'd recommend visiting Petro's a 5 minute walk from hotel to hire a car for the day - we paid €40 for a VW Polo and he gave us a map and highlighted a suggested route with food and beach stops. Visit Olympia Taverna in Zia the food and view is lovely. This used to be a very traditional and old fashioned village with hand made gifts available in the shops, though this has become a little more commercialised in recent years so there is not quite so much choice regards to unique handmade gifts typically stocking the same products as all other shops on the island now. Would highly recommend Flintstones bar for an evening cocktail if you fancy a local change of scenery from the hotel- a 3 minute walk from the hotel. Overall, this could have been a wonderful break but was overshadowed by the poor response and reaction to BED bugs being present in our room and the overhanging anxiety having now returned to home and fear we may have brought bed bugs back with us.
